Happy Bastille Day: The Fleur de Meat
Questions?
We had our 7th annual SausageFest this weekend. In honor of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, this year’s special project was a heart-shaped meat sampler box. We used a Whitman’s sampler box, and (after “disposing” of all the chocolate therein) filled the bottom and the lid with meaty treats. The sampler consisted of bacon-wrapped scallops, pepperoni slices, chicken liver, chicken gizzards, and heart- and star-shaped sausage chunks.

As is the case with most outstanding sculptures of meat, I did not create the Meat Manger alone. Much credit must be given to Andrea, Jen, and Scott for their collaboration. Andrea does not even eat any pork products (save for the occasional taste of bacon/prosciutto, and who can blame her? it’s delicious!) but is always on board for my various meat endeavors. And Jen and Scott have attended every SausageFest since the beginning, and were instrumental in the creation of the Manger’s meat figures- the Wise Men, and the Jesus family. So thanks, guys!

A little Meat Manger slide show.
My Meat Manger has been getting a lot of coverage in the blogosphere this season, but much to my disappointment, 1) the photo has rarely been attributed to me, 2) on the rare occasion, others have claimed my Meat Nativity as being their own work, and 3) it has been misnamed by numerous blogs - “Pork Nativity Scene”? So inelegant. It sounds like the translation it would have on a Japanese website or something. So I thought I’d start a blog for it, and for past and future meat sculpture endeavors. Of which, there have, and will, be many.
